MAGNIFICAT
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed;
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm
and has scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones
and lifting up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his servant Israel,
to remember his promise of mercy,
The promise made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

HAIL, THOU GLORY
OF THIS MIDDLE-WORLD!

Cynewulf

Probably the earliest vernacular poetry in the West to celebrate the praise of Mary was the Anglo-Saxon; for Cynewulf, slightly before the time of Alcuin and of Charlemagne, composed most glowing verses on this theme; for example to quote Gollancz's translation of "The Christ" (ii, 214-80):

Hail, thou glory of this middle-world!
The purest woman
throughout all the earth.
Of those that were from immemorial time
How rightly art thou named by all endowed
With gifts of speech! All mortals throughout earth
Declare full blithe of heart that thou art bride
Of Him that ruleth the empyral sphere.

PRAYERS

TO THE

MADONNA DELLE GRAZIE

Santa Maria delle Grazie,
Mother of Jesus and our Mother, listen to our confidant prayer.
As you're revered in our homes,
let flourish in them the peace that stems from the obedience to the divine will.
At any day, on any table let not be missing  bread  and to no heart fail goodness.
At the dark hour of doubt, be our benign light.
At the sorrowful hour of the cross, be our sweet comfort and help us to fulfill what is lacking in the passion of Christ for the salvation of the world.
Let the errant return to the embrace of God's infinite Mercy and sick persons be cured by Your Son's tenderness and omnipotence.
Let our young people seek the face of God and the most capable to love discover the sublime beauty of offering themselves entirely  to serve His Kingdom of truth, justice and peace.
Protect with Your vigilant love the streets of our work so that the path be unharmed and every meeting be radiant of friendship.
And when our steps arrive at the threshold of the House, open it and show us Your Jesus in the glory of the Father and the Holy Spirit for all eternal and happy centuries.
Amen.

Bishop

In the footsteps of Jesus Christ,
we come to Thee,
Madonna delle Grazie,
and we salute You: Hail Mary, Hail Mother of Christ, Hail Mother of the Church and our Mother!
Accept, o Holy Virgin,
the affections, the fears and the supplications that we always address You.
Spport our steps on the way to a serene and courageous faith.
Teach us to work hard and live like Jesus, daily abandoned in the good hands of God our Father, in concern for our families, for our fellow men and for the Church, as witnesses of forgiveness, peace and tenacious hope.
Let us always contemplate together with You the glorious face of Christ our Lord, Your Son cricified risen and ascended into heaven, for us made way, truth and life.
O clement, O loving, O sweet
Virgin Mary.
